On September 30, during the opening of the 2015-16 academic year, the Faculty of Optics and Optometry of Terrassa awarded Professor Lyndon Jones from the University of Waterloo (Canada) the International Optometrist of the Year Award, in its first edition.

Professor Lyndon Jones delivered a lecture titled "Happiness through learning and education" to attendees. He encouraged students to pursue lifelong learning, maintain constant curiosity, and seek answers from books, peers, teachers, and scientific evidence. He explained that the path to happiness lies in serving others and learning a new skill each day to apply in clinical practice.

The International Optometrist of the Year Award was presented by the Dean of the Faculty, Joan Gispets, the President of the COOOC, Alfons Bielsa, and the President of the ACOTV, Roser Villena.

Lyndon Jones

BSc (Hons) University of Wales (Cardiff), PhD Aston University (Birmingham)

Director of the Centre for Contact Lens Research and professor at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo (Canada). Member of BCLA, IACLE, and AAO.

Professor Lyndon Jones obtained a BSc (Hons) from the University of Wales (Cardiff) in 1985 and a PhD from Aston University (Birmingham) in 1998, with a thesis titled “Ocular Compatibility of Hydrogel Contact Lens Materials”.

He is a member of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). He currently serves as Director of the Centre for Contact Lens Research and professor at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo (Canada).

He has nearly 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals, is the author of 12 book chapters, has participated in nearly 1500 conferences and courses, and holds 10 patents related to contact lenses and maintenance solutions.

He has received 28 awards and recognitions, including the Glenn Fry Award (2014), the Donald Korb Award (2014), and the Pioneers Lecturer Award from BCLA (2010). He is also a reviewer for 21 journals and a member of the editorial board of Optometry & Vision Science.

He actively participates in the Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS) of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society. He has supervised 19 PhD projects and 25 Master’s thesis projects.
