PRIZE TO THE BEST OPTOMETRIST OF THE YEAR 2017

JAMES WOLFFSOHN

 

On 27 September, and in the framework of the inauguration of the 2017-2018 academic year, the Faculty of Optics and Optometry of Terrassa delivered Professor James Wolffsohn of the University of Aston (United Kingdom), the International Prize to the Optometrist of the year, in its 2017 edition.

During the ceremony, which took place in the monumental ensemble of the churches of Sant Pere in Terrassa, one of the jewels of the Romanesque (s.IX-XII), professor James Wolffsohn offered to the assistants the inaugural lecture. In his talk, titled "How to make the most out of your status as university students," Professor Wolffsohn urged students in the first year to take their university paths to cultivate long-lasting friendships, to get involved To the maximum of the university community, to take every opportunity to grow as a person and as a professional future. James Stuart William Wolffsohn

 

Following a 1st class Optometry degree from Manchester, a pre-registration year at Moorfield's Eye Hospital, London, a PhD at Cardiff University and a clinical/research fellowship at the University of Melbourne, Australia, Professor Wolffsohn was appointed by Aston University in 2000, where he was Head of Optometry 2004-9 and Deputy Executive Dean for Life and Health Sciences 2009-16, being awarded a personal Chair in 2007.

He is now associate Pro-Vice Chancellor.

James has published over 185 peer reviewed academic papers and given numerous international presentations. His main research areas are the development and evaluation of ophthalmic instrumentation, contact lenses, intraocular lenses and the tear film.

He is the academic Chair of the British Contact Lens Association, having been a past president and is Chair of the 2nd Dry Eye Workshop Diagnosis Sub-committee
