Edició 2018

El 19 de setembre, i en el marc de la inauguració del curs acadèmic 2018·2019, la Facultat d'Òptica i Optometria de Terrassa va lliurà al professor Konrad Pesudovs el Premi Internacional al Optometrista l'Any, en la seva edició de 2018.

En el transcurs de l'acte, que va tenir lloc al conjunt monumental de les Esglésies de Sant Pere de Terrassa, una de les joies del romànic (s. IX-XII), el professor Konrad Pesudovs va oferir als assistents la conferència inaugural dirigida especialment als estudiants de primer de la FOOT, amb la que els encoratjarà a excel·lir acadèmica i personalment i a cercar més enllà dels llibres per assolir una expertesa clínica i una equilibrada filosofia vital.

També es va fer el lliurament del llibre de registre d'Activitat Clínica als estudiants de segon curs, un llibre que serveix d'evidència dels pacients amb els que aquests estudiants tindran ocasió d'interactuar (en major o menor mesura, segons el seu progrés acadèmic) al llarg del Grau.

Konrad Pesudovs

Konrad Pesudovs has been Foundation Professor of Optometry and Vision Science at Flinders Universityin Adelaide, South Australia. Professor Pesudovs graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1990 and spent two years in a specialty contact lens practice before joining the Department of Ophthalmology at Flinders University, where he completed a PhD in 2000. During his PhD studies he also ran a private optometric practice in Glenelg, South Australia.

His main research interest is ophthalmology outcomes research, incorporating optical, visual and patient-centred measurement into the holistic evaluation of outcomes in ophthalmology. A key element of this is the development of patient-centred measures including visual disability, quality of life and other latent traits using Rasch analysis. This method improves internal consistency and measurement precision, thus facilitating a more effective diagnosis and management of patients.

Another key area of research interest of professor Pesudovs is in the optics of the eye and visual performance. Current research includes identifying optical quality metrics predictive of visual performance in eye disease.

Professor Pesudovs is a part of the Ophthalmology, Eye and Vision Research Group at Flinders University, which aims at improving outcomes for patients with blinding eye conditions. He is involved in a number of international collaborations: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study and The Swedish National Cataract Register.

Professor Pesudovs has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers (including 28 in The Lancet), seven book chapters, and over 70 other publications.  He has made over 200 presentations at international conferences.  His career grant funding is over US$9million. He was Chairman of the Board of Administration of the National Vision Research Institute (2015-2016). He is a member of the Governing Council of the Australian College of Optometry (2010-), serving as President from 2016-. He has been a Committee Member of the Publications Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (2012-2014). He has a page on wikipedia.
